White Noise Improves Focus of Children With ADHD

According to a new study, children with ADHD focus better when white noise is played in the background, Family Health Guide reported.Researchers tested concentration and memory of normally attentive children and of children who had ADHD in situations where white noise was played in the background.  While normally attentive children found the noise distracting, concentration and memory scores actually improved for children with ADHD.

The results surprised researchers, who had expected to find the opposite effect: That white noise would be more detrimental for children with ADHD than for normally attentive children.

Instead, they found that white noise could actually be as effective as medication in improving the concentration of children with ADHD.

Scientists are theorizing that the white noise makes other noise less random and distracting for these children.
