Popular antibiotic linked with rare but deadly heart risk

Don’t drop your Z-Pak just yet! If your doctor thinks you need it, then Zithromax may still be the drug of choice for many infections. However, a recent report has caused some concern in both doctors and their patients. According to the report, there was a statistical increase in the number of cardiac complications in patients taking the medication. But if you look at the data carefully, the risk was seen people that were already at an increased risk for heart conditions. So, to me — the headline on this story now should be that azithromycin might be linked to cardiac complications in patients with heart health problems. I think that further studies need to be done, but it does bring to light the fact that we can’t take medications lightly, because sometimes they can surprise us.
