The Inner Facial: Sculpt Your Face from the Inside Out

A facial massage sounds glorious. But what about one that works inside the mouth?

The ‘inner facial’ is a signature treatment by celebrity facialist Nichola Joss, and her clients swear by it. Not many others would dare get that personal with clients, but Joss goes for it anyway.

This famous beautician has had her share of quality clients too, including celebrities like Kate Moss and Meghan Markle.

All come to receive the promised facial sculpting and glean wisdom from Joss’s techniques too.

According to the professional’s website, her inner facial is designed to loosen the facial muscles. Her deep tissue techniques lift and contour the face’s shape, giving it a more youthful quality.

However, Joss tells Fashion magazine that the facial also involves massaging the lymphatic tissue. According to her, working deeply in this area allows the tissue to drain and release toxins.

At the same time, the inner facial should give a “feeling of softness” to the jaw, she tells Fashion. Her goal is to de-stress the muscle and restore it to a healthy, youthful condition. That includes a few seconds massaging inside the mouth.

As she works, Joss also gives each client a customized experience, mixing her oils and products as she evaluates the skin.

The result? A natural face-lift that requires no surgery at all.

Does the Inner Facial Work?

At this point, you’re probably wondering if Nichola Joss’s unusual technique works. If you gauge success by celebrity testimonials and a packed clientele schedule, the answer is yes.

According to People magazine, Meghan Markle (now Duchess of Sussex) raves about Joss’s facials. The actress has said that the inner facials have helped “sculpt and refine” her jaw, says the magazine.

Joss is one of the celebrity’s favorite beauticians.

Now, Meghan uses Joss’s techniques to massage her own face, an extra that the facialist teaches all her clients before they leave her hands.

Meghan Markle isn’t the only celebrity who’s used and loves Nichola Joss, though. Joss has also worked with Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez and Natalie Dormer to name a few.

She often holds pop-up sessions in hot spot cities right around celebrity awards ceremonies. And many of those celebrities trust her to help them look their best for their big night.

How to do a Facial Massage at Home

So while you won’t get to do the famous inner facial at home (it’s probably a little hard to get it right on yourself), Joss does encourage at-home outer facials.

Just start massaging from the middle of your face and go outward and upward, she told Popsugar. Your goal is to work out the tension; so feel around for stress points and massage those.

Oh, and don’t forget to use a good facial oil while you’re at it.
