Barry Manilow Shares Hospital Bed Photo After Lung Surgery

82-year-old Barry Manilow is on the mend.
The famous singer posted a hospital bed selfie on Saturday, January 4th, with the caption “Better today!” He underwent surgery to remove a cancerous spot from his left lung after he was diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer.
The diagnosis came in December 2025 after a long battle with bronchitis.
In a post on Instagram, he wrote, “As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks. Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.”
The Diagnosis
Instead of a green checkmark, Manilow received his diagnosis.
“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early.”
After the diagnosis, Manilow received a surgery date in December, and followed it with cancellations of many of his shows in December and January.
Surgery Goes Well
Following the surgery, the “Copacabana” hitmaker revealed the doctors do not believe the cancer has spread. While there are still more tests to confirm, the singer doesn’t look to have chemo or radiation in his future. Instead, he’ll have a healthy dose of “chicken soup and ‘I Love Lucy’ reruns.”
His recovery will require a month before stepping on the stage again. Unfortunately, this means many of his Las Vegas shows have been pushed to February 2026. Hopefully, Manilow can return to the stage in February and resume his Las Vegas residency over Valentine’s Day weekend.
Get Tested

In another message to the fans, Manilow added, “Something tells me February is going to be one big party … I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and remember, if you even have the slightest symptom, get tested!”
This advice is extremely applicable to people of any age or gender. Diseases and other illnesses can pop up with just the smallest of notice.
We follow many fans, though, and hope that Barry Manilow’s recovery is smooth and speedy. Hopefully, he is serenading fans on stage during Valentine’s Day this year.
