Best-selling author Colleen Hoover, 46, revealed that she is in her final stretch of cancer treatment. She shared the news on January 12, 2026, in an Instagram Story, saying that she’d just completed her second-to-last day of radiation.

People Magazine reported that Hoover previously told fans she was diagnosed in December 2025, had surgery to remove the cancer, and would need radiation but not chemotherapy.

As someone who follows entertainment news a little too closely, it’s inspiring how many people now share their health stories. These moments can often encourage others to seek medical help when they feel something is not quite right.

In the IG story, Hoover posted herself in a blue gown during treatment and thanked her care team (check out the second image in the IG posts below to see that).

InStyle highlights what Hoover wrote in the IG story. She praised Texas Oncology, saying she hopes nobody ever needs a place like that, but if you do, she’s grateful for how she was treated there.

What we know about the cancer

The type of cancer has not been publicly shared at this point.

However, information from Hoover’s January 9 Facebook update (below) revealed that she was told her cancer didn’t come from family genes and wasn’t tied to what she called the two main causes, HPV or excessive hormones.

As highlighted by Entertainment Weekly, Hoover believes the likely explanation is environmental and lifestyle factors. She even lists out the potential causes in her FB post, including a lack of exercise, poor diet, and stress.

That whole section is a tough read, especially as life can be hard work and the ramifications are often everything she wrote on that list.

According to People Magazine, Hoover first shared the diagnosis in a more private space, a fan Facebook group, in December. This diagnosis was later connected to a period when she was dealing with recurring health issues while working on a film project. During this time, she said she kept putting it off until filming wrapped.

For anyone who is uncertain of who Colleen Hoover is, you’ll likely know her books or at least the recent Netflix adaptation, It Ends With Us.

According to Goodreads, her most reviewed books are It Ends With Us and Verity. The latter being a dark twisty romantic thriller.

Here are some other books books you may have heard of:

  • It Starts With Us
  • Ugly Love
  • Reminders of Him

For anyone thinking of watching the Netflix adaptation, know that it’s not light viewing. It deals with domestic violence and trauma.

Among all the cancer reports, it’s important to know that the author has continued to work. Hoover has many adaptations in motion, and her new novel, Woman Down, hit shelves on January 13, 2026.

As Hoover wrote herself in the IG story, she’s grateful to be alive, and hopefully after the last session, that’ll be the end of her cancer story.
