During the years between 2011 and 2016, there was a TV show on VH1 called Mob Wives. The show followed women connected to Staten Island families with organized crime ties. Renee Graziano was one of the standout personalities, and in recent news, her 31-year-old son, AJ, was hospitalized with a suspected heart attack.

TMZ reported that AJ went in for testing after experiencing symptoms including chest pain and numbness in his left arm. These symptoms can often look like a heart attack. These symptoms came on while AJ was working, and upon being checked out by a doctor, fortunately, it wasn’t a heart attack. The exact cause was not reported.

The interesting aspect here is AJ’s age. At 31, people would assume it’s not a heart attack and may try to walk it off. However, seeking immediate medical help is the right thing to do.

I think the age aspect is what makes this story relevant. Thirty-one is young, and stories like this are a reminder that even younger adults can still have alarming symptoms that need immediate medical attention. Even suspected heart attacks.

Why symptoms like AJ’s should cause immediate concern

The combination of chest pain and left arm numbness is symptoms most people know are related to a heart attack. It gets someone’s attention fast.

According to the American Heart Association, chest discomfort and pain or discomfort in one or both arms are among the most common warning signs linked to heart attacks.

These symptoms don’t automatically mean a heart attack is happening. Still, they’re not something to brush off, and AJ’s case is a good example of why people should get checked quickly instead of trying to power through it.

PopCulture.com reported that Graziano described the incident as a reminder to everyone not to ignore your health. This is a message that lands harder because of AJ’s age. Too many people still assume serious heart-related symptoms only show up later in life. Not always.

Other heart attack symptoms people should know

The CDC states that heart attack symptoms can vary from person to person, which is part of what makes them easy to miss. Some people have intense chest pain, while others have less obvious signs.

Symptoms may include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea
  • Cold sweats
  • Lightheadedness
  • Unusual fatigue
  • Discomfort in the jaw, neck, back, or stomach
  • Sometimes the symptoms come on suddenly, and sometimes they build over time.

The key to this story is that age is not a factor. You cannot be too young to react to the above symptoms. The CDC’s guidance is clear, if someone has symptoms that could be a heart attack, they should seek emergency medical help right away. Even if it ends up being something else, getting evaluated quickly is the safest move.
