Actress Evangeline Lilly has shared a tough health update at the start of 2026. In her own words, the celebrity said that doctors have found brain damage after a concussion that began after a frightening beach accident last spring.

People Magazine reported that the Marvel and Lost star posted a concussion update video on Instagram on January 2, 2026, telling fans that new test results showed “almost every area” of her brain is working at a lower level than before.

Back in May 2025, multiple outlets including Fox News confirmed Lilly said she fainted at the beach and fell face-first into a boulder or rock, leaving her with visible injuries and what she later described as a traumatic brain injury.

The actress wrote about the incident on Substack, explaining that she blacked out and ended up hospitalized, with doctors focusing on why she fainted in the first place.

The 2026 video update

In the January update, Lilly told viewers she was entering “the year of the horse” with “bad news” about her concussion. She acknowledged the questions she has been getting about brain scans and recovery.

The scans came back with what she described as widespread decreased function, and she didn’t soften the wording. “Almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity,” she said, adding that she does have brain damage from the TBI and that “possibly other factors” could be involved.

Fox News broke down what she said comes next, getting answers with her doctors and then doing the “hard work” of trying to improve what the scans showed. No easy fix.

In the comments, support showed up fast, with People Magazine noting that Michelle Pfeiffer, her Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania co-star, posted an encouraging message, and Alyssa Milano also commented in support.

In coverage by HELLO! Magazine, they point to Lilly’s earlier public break from acting, and it included a bit of her family context, noting she shares two children with longtime partner Norman Kali.

Fame meets real life

I’ll be honest, this kind of update still surprises me, not because head injuries are rare, but because so many public figures share the scariest parts of their private lives in real time.

It’s their story and when it comes directly from the celebrity’s mouth, there’s no gossip, just facts. Which is what fans want.

What’s important is that in Lilly’s own words, she’s trying to focus on recovery and gratitude, even while admitting the road ahead looks steep. What adds to the mystery is that she has dealt with fainting spells since childhood without a clear explanation.

For longtime fans who remember her from Lost or her run in the MCU, the headline is simple and sobering, she’s dealing with a serious brain injury, and she’s now in the complicated phase of figuring out what can be treated and how far treatment can go.
