British model and TV personality Penny Lancaster (55), who many people will know as Rod Stewart’s wife, has publicly added to the growing speculation around President Donald Trump’s health

According to the Express, Lancaster speculated that Trump’s visible bruising, facial marks, and apparent drowsiness could point to dementia

This is after fresh attention fell on recurring bruises on his hands, reports of him seeming drowsy in public meetings, and a newer facial mark that some outlets also seized on.

Where the rumors keep starting

According to Reuters, the administration has repeatedly pushed back on the idea that the bruising points to a hidden crisis.

The White House has said Trump’s hand bruises are linked to frequent handshaking and to aspirin he takes routinely as a preventive measure for cardiovascular health

In the same report, it’s highlighted that Trump also denied he was sleeping during a December cabinet meeting, saying he had simply closed his eyes because the session was boring, not because he was nodding off.

KERA News added that Trump has regularly appeared with visible makeup on the back of his hand, and that questions have swirled for months about bruising, imaging tests, and moments when he appeared to drift during meetings.

At Davos in January, the explanations got even more specific. Sky News reported that Trump said he had “clipped” his hand on a table, while press secretary Karoline Leavitt said he hit his hand on the corner of a signing table during an event.

Fox News also highlighted a White House official saying photos from earlier that day showed no bruises before the ceremony, and that Trump is more prone to bruising because of daily aspirin use.

What symptoms are outlets focusing on?

Most of the coverage keeps circling the same points:

  • Bruising on one or both hands.
  • Occasional signs of fatigue or closed eyes during meetings.
  • A skin issue on his neck that The Guardian said Trump’s doctor attributed to a common preventive cream.
  • There was also the White House disclosure last year that Trump has chronic venous insufficiency, a common vein condition that can cause leg swelling, especially in older adults.

Put all of that together, and you can see why the conversation may have gone away.

Fact-checking the symptoms

The Mayo Clinic states that aspirin can make people bruise more easily because it affects the blood’s ability to clot.

A bruise around the eye area, the Cleveland Clinic says, is often simply a black eye caused by trauma to the face or head, sometimes minor, sometimes more serious.

As for the possible dozing, the Mayo Clinic writes that excessive daytime sleepiness can be associated with obstructive sleep apnea, which can also affect focus and energy during the day.

An important point, these are general medical possibilities, not a diagnosis.

Let’s be honest, all of the above could simply relate to aging. The National Institute on Aging shows that older adults tend to bruise more easily because skin gets thinner and blood vessels become more fragile with age. That doesn’t erase every question, but it does offer a very ordinary explanation for at least part of what people are seeing.

President Trump is 79, and sometimes age shows up on camera in ways that look dramatic even when the cause is much less sensational.

It’s important to remember that The White House position remains that the bruises, the apparent tiredness, and other visible issues do not add up to a hidden medical emergency.
