Chris Bosh Says He’s “Lucky to Be Alive,” Urges Fans: “Don’t Wait”
Former NBA star Chris Bosh revealed that a health emergency left him on the floor, bleeding and shaken.
In Bosh’s newsletter, dated February 22, 2026, he wrote that he blacked out while getting ready for a date night. It started as a sudden numbing sensation shooting down his left leg. He came to while his wife was on the phone to emergency services.
According to Heavy, Bosh also shared a short social video on February 25, further explaining the story. In the video, he added that he woke up covered in his own blood, and that he is lucky to be alive.
Fox News reports that he is still recovering and has not specifically diagnosed what led to this incident.
Who is Chris Bosh?
For anyone who may not know Chris Bosh, he entered the NBA in 2003 after being drafted by the Toronto Raptors. He later became a key part of Miami’s “Big Three” era alongside Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.
During his career, he was an 11-time All-Star, a two-time NBA champion, an Olympic gold medalist, and a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021.
Bosh was hospitalized in 2015 with a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in the lung, and later dealt with recurring blood clots that derailed his NBA career. He retired in 2019 because of health concerns.
It’s important to know that, at this point in time, the cause of this medical emergency is not known. It may not be related to his past blood clot history.
The symptoms people should watch for
Information from the CDC shows that pulmonary embolism symptoms can include:
- Trouble breathing
- A fast or irregular heartbeat
- Chest pain that gets worse with deep breathing or coughing
- Coughing up blood
- Low blood pressure, lightheadedness, or fainting.
In regard to the leg numbness, if it was related to blood clotting, it may have been related to deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This is caused by a blood clot in a deep vein, usually in the leg (sometimes the pelvis or arm). Symptoms of this can include:
- Swelling, pain, or tenderness
- An odd warmth in the area
- Skin discoloration in the affected limb
Lightheadedness and numbness in the legs are health changes many people might try to struggle through. However, any health change should result in you getting a checkup by a doctor.
Advice from Chris Bosh
The biggest takeaway from Bosh is not just the shock of the collapse, it’s the warning that came after it. He wrote in his newsletter, “What we do for ourselves, what we do for our family. How we live our lives. And no matter what it is, make sure you don’t wait. That’s the thing that I get from this. Don’t wait to take action. Because it could come fast. It could come quick. And I’m lucky to be alive. And I feel great about that.”
Simply put, don’t put things off.
