Lung cancer CT scans: Just for older heavy smokers

New lung cancer screening guidelines recommend annual scans, but only for an older group of current or former heavy smokers. I’m excited that were getting closer to more standardized screening guidelines for lung cancer, but at the same time, I’m still hoping that science can come up with a test that covers people outside these high-risk groups. Ideally, you want to catch lung cancer very early in the game, and that is where screening comes in. Unfortunately, many people still smoke, including teenagers. There are also a subgroup of lung cancers that are not associated with smoking that also deserve our attention. But the new guidelines seem to point out that CT scans continue to be the best tool for screening. Click here to read more.
