In the wake of Sirtis Pharmaceuticals recent announcement that scientists have officially proven that "a derivative of an ingredient in red wine combats some symptoms of aging," one has to wonder whom this study is going to benefit more - the wine industry or the consumer?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, daily alcohol consumption of any kind, overtime can leave drinkers susceptible to liver, brain and nervous system damage.
So is a glass of red wine with a few anti-aging properties in it worth all the other health risks potentially at stake?
Nutritionist and Health Writer Gary Null, claims in his latest book, "Get Healthy Now!" that popular drinks with so called "health benefits," like wine and coffee, give free rein to people's ingrained bad habits and do more damage than good.
Null suggests that rather than taxing your entire body with a glass of red wine everyday, why not incorporate some "super foods" into your diet that naturally nourish your body and help you truly live longer minus all the side effects?
Here are a just a few of many foods that Null advocates to live by that will help you grow old gracefully and healthfully:
- Flaxseed Oil: Beneficial for digestion and skin
- Carrots: Good for eyes and protects against cancer
- Broccoli: Helps regulate insulin
- Blueberries: Full of Antioxidants
- Oranges: High in Vitamin C
- Spinach: Anti-Cancer properties
- Garlic: Keeps skin elastic
- Dandelion Greens: Improves liver function
- Kale: Anti- Cancer properties
- Olive Oil: Good for brain, skin and heart function
