Good Food and Good Blogs

The 2008 Bloggie nominations were announced, and no, Ask Dr. Manny was not nominated. Still, it’s always great to find a few more resources for information online.

Although there’s no category for health blogs, there are a few nominees that may be of some help to you in the kitchen.

101 Cookbooks

Heidi Swanson accumulated quite a few cookbooks over the years, yet she still bought more. Then she realized she had enough cookbooks, and decided to expand her repertoire from the handful of recipes she’d tried in the past. Nothing novel about this you say. How many cookbooks do you own? And how many of the recipes have you tried? My point exactly. And she’s got a Bloggie nomination to show for it. There are quite a few vegan and vegetarian recipes on her site, a good number of gluten-free recipes and a dash of low carb items to peruse through. And if you like them that much, perhaps Heidi’s own cookbook will be the last one you add to your library.

Gluten-Free Girl

Whether you choose to be gluten-free or your body chooses it for you, you’ll find plenty to eat over at Gluten-Free Girl. That girl is Shauna James Ahern, and she suffers from celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder. It’s sometimes described as gluten intolerance, which explains her gluten-free lifestyle. If 101 Cookbooks had a good number of gluten-free recipes, then I’ll continue with the exact measurements and say that Gluten-Free Girl has a boatload. Oh, and Shauna has a book out, too, not a cookbook, but a book nonetheless.

Smitten Kitchen

Of the three blogs in this post, I visited Smitten Kitchen first. And I was immediately smitten by the wonderful food photos, if the word smitten can be used as a synonym for mouth-watering, that is. Well, both Smitten Kitchen and 101 Cookbooks were nominated for best photography, so I should have expected this kind of physiological reaction. Anyway, Smitten Kitchen boasts a large amount of recipes for your home cooking needs, including an area devoted to vegetarian dishes.

Bon Appetit!
