Breastfeeding Facts For New Moms

When women find out they are pregnant, they immediately rush out to buy books that talk about pregnancy, and the best things women can do for the health of their baby both before and after the pregnancy. The first thing that everyone will tell an expectant mother is that she needs to consider breastfeeding rather than using formula. To help make the decision easier, here are some breastfeeding facts that new moms need to know.

Breastfeeding Helps Babies Have Strong Immune Systems

Because breast milk is made from mom, her immunity is going to be passed on to her baby. Studies have shown that babies that are breastfed are not as prone to asthma, allergies, colds, and ear infections.

Breastfeeding Saves Money

Expectant mothers should make a stop at a grocery store to check out the prices of baby formula. Typically, cans of formula can range anywhere from 20 to 30 dollars a can. A can may last anywhere from a week to only a few days, and having to buy several cans a week can really add up! Breastfeeding can save parents a lot of money and they can use that savings to buy their babies something else.

Breastfeeding Makes Mom and Baby Calm

When a woman is breastfeeding, it releases hormones in her body that help keep her calm. Also, babies who are breastfeeding become so relaxed that most of the time they may end up falling asleep.  A calm mom and calm baby can make for a very peaceful household.

New moms can be faced with a lot of choices, but one thing they need to consider is breastfeeding their babies. There are countless reasons why breastfeeding is best, and it can be good for both mom and baby too. However, before any decisions are made, a new mom may need to do a little research to make sure that breastfeeding really is something she wants to do.
